KWMR – Community Radio for West Marin 90.5/89.7FM

What goes on inside KWMR is all about nuts and bolts and everything we accomplish is a direct result of community support and the inspired efforts of our volunteer program hosts, board of directors, and small paid staff.

Diverse, regional and interesting programming is the heart of what we offer and we are proud of our program hosts and the quality of what we offer, but having a successful local radio station is never just about the great programs. KWMR is also a community center, providing places to meet and get to know each other both on air and at events.

The operations of a radio station are in constant flux – transmitter sites, emergency operations, studio equipment, automation and program download, and vigilant attention to rules, regulations and new ways we can improve our signal given the tight parameters we work within, to name just a few.

News is another area that labors mightily behind the scenes to produce the daily ten minute regional news report. Having launched the short format late in 2006, we watched it flourish in 2007, adding news archives to the KWMR website. In 2008 we hope to add website archives of many of our other great programs.

As a result of our fundraising success and our impressive work in developing KWMR as an emergency communications resource, our staff were invited to present workshops at the 2007 National Federation of Community Broadcasters conference in New Orleans on those two topics. Afterward, we toured the city, seeing firsthand the results of Katrina and reinforcing our commitment to emergency services.

KWMR is nearing its 10th year broadcasting on air - tune in and listen on 90.5 in Pt Reyes, Inverness, Marshall and parts of Sonoma and on 89.7 in Bolinas, Stinson Beach and parts of San Francisco.
